Transport 2007
This year again was a good success with Danny McCarthy and Kenny O'Flaherty
driving to Smorgon orphanage in the Minsk region with aid in association with
Dunshaughlin Chernobyl Group, Co. Meath. As last year, we did a solo run,
i.e. one lorry without a convoy.
The truck was again provided by Tom
O'Donnell International Transport of Dublin and this year Tom surprised
us by donating to us a trailer with our own logo on it. Thank you very much Tom.
We
traveled through Lithuania for the first time as Smorgon is near the Lithuanian
border. All went well, though our sailing out of Ireland was canceled which made
our journey a day longer.

2006 Positive
Aid did itself proud again this year. This time we did a solo trip, without
the usual truck convoy. Our truck, donated by Tom O'Donnell International Transport,
was driven by Emmet O'Donnell and Kenny O'Flaherty to Rudensk orphanage,
in the Minsk region, and John Maunsell replaced Kenny on the return truck journey
to Ireland with Emmet. The load of aid was in
association with Dunshaughlin Chernobyl Group, Co. Meath. 2004
Tom O'Donnell again donated one of his trucks and a trailer and this
year he came along himself and shared the driving with Kenny on the outward trip,
while his son, Emmet, replaced him on the homeward leg of the journey. (See web
page "Our History"). Our load was again supplied by Charleville
Chernobyl Foundation, and went to various orphanages in the Brest region.
(Again see web page "Our History" for the full story).
2003
On our trip to Albania we were donated a truck by Mercedes (Ireland)
Ltd. and a container by Iarnród Éireann (freight dept.), Cork.
2002 As in 2000, Tom O'Donnell supplied
the lorry and trailer to us and this time Tom's brother, Paul, went with Kenny.
Linking up with Chernobyl Aid Ireland Ltd. they went to Grozovo orphanage
with construction machines to do some site work.. (See Web page "Our History").
We are most grateful to Tom for his kind generosity. We would like to
thank Valentina Bedritskaya and her daughter Tonia for their tremendous help at
the border with the customs office. Having had a problem we would have been lost
without them 2000 In April 2000,
Positive Aid teamed up with Bus Éireann staff Chernobyl Fund
and Kenny O'Flaherty and Tim Breen departed from Cloghane, Co. Kerry amidst
a thronged crowd after an associated Mass. We linked up with Chernobyl Aid
Ireland Ltd. in Rosslare Harbour and travelled through Wales, England, France,
Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland and arrived at the Polish-Belarussian border
going through the usual delays. We helped the Charleville Chernobyl
Foundation to transport their load of food and supplies to the Brest region,
where it was distributed to Kobrin and Pinsk orphanages, as well as other underprivileged
schools and deprived villages. The operation was overseen by Valentina Bedritskaya
of I.H.I.S.C. (International Humanitarian Initiative Support Centre).
They give us great help and support. Tom O'Donnell International
Transport of Dublin kindly supplied an articulated lorry for the trip. Tom
is a native of Cloghane himself and is a keen supporter of our cause. |
